About the event

The Danish composer Jexper Holmen will present a 4 hours playlist of the most beautiful, other-worldly, and entertaining fugues from the medieval era to modern days, from Gombert over J. S. Bach, Clara Schumann, Richard Strauss and Verdi to Vincent Lo.

Fugues present a wide variety of expressions from the deeply serious to the most playful, and they unfold in many medias from solo instruments to orchestra music, operas, choir music and cellphone signals, also from composers whom you don’t normally associate with fugues.

We will start at 13:00 in Bådehuset for one hour of deep-listening of “Basic Fugues”. After 14:15, the audiences have the freedom of choosing between two more deep listening sessions in Bådehuset – “lesser known fugues” and “advanced fugues”, or quality coffee, social hang-out, and mini-market with fugue music in the background, in “Lydatelier”, which is just 10 meters across Bådehuset.

You can purchase good coffee, tea, wine and drinks to add to your experience. There will be provided simple snacks and homemade cakes.

The event is dedicated to anyone who wants a cozy weekend - no matter how academic and equilibristic the fugue is, everyone can hear and recognize its principle of a theme that wanders from voice to voice, making the fugue a wide and open gateway to universal listening experiences.

Musicians Jexper Holmen (fugue playlists, fugue introductions) Matt Choboter, piano Nadia Okrusko, piano Anna Flodmark, piano Nichlas Overgaard, guitarist Ying-Hsueh Chen, marimba & percussion Students from The Royal Danish Academy of Music, to be announced
